‘Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc’ Opens with $3.4 Million; Springsteen Fails to Hit $1 Million

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Sony and Crunchyroll’s Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc earned $3.4 million in Thursday night previews, starting at 4 p.m. across 2,500 North American theaters.

This debut nearly matches the $3.8 million preview haul of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train back in April 2021, which went on to open with $21.2 million during its first weekend while theaters were still recovering from pandemic closures.

Directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara and based on the hit manga of the same name, Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc is projected to gross around $11 million this weekend, facing close competition from Universal and Blumhouse’s The Black Phone 2, expected to bring in roughly $12 million in its sophomore frame. The anime film currently holds a 100% critics’ score and 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere from 20th Century Studios, directed by Scott Cooper, grossed just $850,000 on Thursday. The $55 million music drama is tracking for a modest $9–11 million weekend.

That’s below the debut of A Complete Unknown, James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet, which opened to $1.4 million in previews, $7.2 million on day one, $11.6 million over three days, and $23.2 million across five days.

Springsteen, starring Jeremy Allen White, opened in 3,460 theaters, including 250 IMAX and 750 premium screens. It holds a 61% critics’ rating and an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film explores the period when Bruce Springsteen recorded Nebraska, prior to releasing his iconic Born in the U.S.A. album.

Elsewhere, Paramount’s Regretting You, released in fewer than 500 theaters, has yet to post official numbers, though Deadline reports its opening night outperformed Deliver Me From Nowhere. Weekend estimates suggest a $9–11 million total. The drama, which has just a 34% Rotten Tomatoes rating, follows the aftermath of a car accident that kills two family members and unravels long-held secrets and regrets. The cast includes Scott Eastwood, McKenna Grace, Mason Thames, Sam Morelos, Ethan Samuel Castanilla, Willa Fitzgerald, and Clancy Brown.

Finally, Neon’s psychological horror Shelby Oaks earned $515,000 on Thursday and is expected to reach several million dollars by Sunday.
